Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers will be holding their 2nd annual Salute to Heroes on March 11th, at 4pm when the team takes on the Gwinnett Gladiators at Charlotte Bobcats Arena the club announced today.
The Charlotte Fire Department, MEDIC 911, CMPD and Sheriff's Office are joining forces to help raise money for scholarship programs and families from each organization. The event will feature a special opening ceremony and Heroes hockey game compiled of players from each group following the Checkers game. All of the jerseys worn by the two competing teams in the Heroes game will be auctioned off following the game. The evening will be capped off by the Checkers traditional Sunday post game skate. In addition to Checkers players, Fireman, Policeman, Medics and Sheriffs will be on hand to skate with the fans.
"Mayhem, disorderly conduct, objects flying through the air...red lights flashing. For the Sheriff, Police, Fire and Medic, it will seem like another day at work...until a hockey game breaks out, says Joe Penner, Executive Director of Medic."
"The CMPD/Sheriff Team has never been stronger," says Police Chief Darrel Stephens, "and I expect we will be taking the Cup this year."
"It is great for all public safety members to enjoy competition on the ice where the outcome supports the families of those that serve, says Chief Luther I Fincher Jr. of the Charlotte Fire Department."
