Victoria, BC - The Las Vegas Wranglers (29-10-12, 70 points) shutout the Victoria Salmon Kings (23-30-1, 47 points) 5-0 at the Save On Foods Memorial Centre on Wednesday night. Goalie Mike McKenna stopped 22 shots for the shutout in his return from Omaha, improving to 15-3-6 on the season. Five different goal scorers lit the lamp for the Wranglers, who picked up their seventh win in their last nine games (7-1-1). Defenseman Aaron Power scored a goal and added an assist, as fellow defenseman Jason Jozsa dished out two assists.
Las Vegas remains in Victoria for games on Friday and Saturday.
In the first period, Las Vegas erupted for three goals in a 2:34-span. Left wing Marco Peluso started the scoring with his 12th goal of the season at 9:59, giving the Wranglers a 1-0 lead. Right wing Steve Crampton scored his 15th goal of the season just 32-seconds later to extend the Wranglers lead to 2-0. Defenseman Aaron Power netted his eighth goal of the season at 12:33, lifting the Wranglers to a 3-0 lead. Las Vegas outshot Victoria 16-4 in the opening period.
In the second period, Las Vegas extended their lead to 4-0 with Nick Anderson scoring his ninth of the season at 14:02. Anderson, playing in his 100th career game as a Wrangler, tallied the power-play goal from Joe Tallari and Jason Jozsa.
In the third period, rookie Kelly Czuy made it a 5-0 Las Vegas lead at 15:52. Czuy picked off a pass at the Las Vegas blueline, creating a breakaway, Czuy went in all alone on Julien Ellies, beating him five-hole for his ninth of the season. Goalie Mike McKenna made 12 saves in the third period to cap off his fourth shutout of the season.
Las Vegas will return home on Tuesday, February 27th to host Idaho at 7:05 pm.
The Wranglers play all 36 home games at the Orleans Arena, located at the Orleans Hotel and Casino at 4500 W. Tropicana Avenue.
