Hurricanes Reassign Justin Peters To Albany

RALEIGH, NC - Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned goaltender Justin Peters to the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL). Peters was recalled to Carolina on Nov. 18, and served as the Hurricanes' backup goaltender for four games as Michael Leighton recovered from a lower-body injury sustained at Montreal on Nov. 17.

Peters, 23, has posted a 6-5-2 record, a 2.43 goals-against average and a.913 save percentage in 13 games with Albany this season. The Blythe, Ont., native is in his fourth professional season and has yet to make his NHL playing debut, though he did serve as the Hurricanes' backup goaltender for four games in December 2008, as well as the four games during this most recent recall. Peters (6'1", 205 lbs.) has posted a 42-56-6 record and a 2.92 goals-against average in 114 career AHL regular-season games with Albany since turning professional in 2006-07. Carolina drafted Peters in the second round, 38th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
