Binghamton Senators News Release
TORONTO - Following a shutout victory over the Adirondack Phantoms on Thanksgiving, the B-Sens boarded a bus and headed north of the border to take on the Toronto Marlies. They would prove not to be quite as lucky, losing momentum and allowing the Marlies to score four unanswered goals in the third period to storm back for a 5-4 victory.
Defenseman Derek Smith opened the scoring at 11:07 of the first period, putting the B-Sens up 1-0. Jason Bailey and Zack Smith assisted on the goal.
Martin St. Pierre and Kaspars Daugavins each netted goals in the second period, putting Binghamton up 3-0 on Toronto. The Marlies' Ben Ondrus however ended Andy Chiodo's shutout streak for the B-Sens, putting one past the net minder at 11:24 of the second period to narrow the scoring gap 3-1.
Binghamton regained their three goal lead at 14:58 of the second as Josh Hennessy scored his seventh of the season, and fifth goal in three games to put the B-Sens on top 4-1. The point was Hennessy's second of the night as he assisted on Daugavins' goal earlier in the period.
The B-Sens' offense would disappear in the third period. Toronto's Ryan Hamilton scored just 57 seconds into the third period to put the Marlies' back within two goals and kicked off a stretch of four unanswered goals. Ondrus net his second goal of the game, while Jiri Tlusty and Troy Bodie would all find the back of the Binghamton net before the end of the game and past the B-Sens for the win.
Binghamton returns home to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena tomorrow for a 7:05 p.m. tilt between the North division leading Rochester Americans.
