Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose dropped their fourth overtime decision with a 2-1 loss to the Peoria Rivermen last night in front of 3,882 fans at the Carver Arena. Veteran Marty Murray scored Manitoba's lone goal while goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 31 of 33 shots for third star honors.

Peoria came out of the gates strong, notching five shots on goaltender Cory Schneider before the Moose fired one on Hannu Toivonen.

Tommy Maxwell and Anthony Peluso dropped their gloves in front of the Rivermen's bench at 17:14. After all the punches were thrown, both attackers were charged with five-minute fighting majors and Peluso was handed an additional two-minute minor for interference. Manitoba fired two attempts on the man-advantage but couldn't capitalize, going zero-for-one on the powerplay.

Manitoba's penalty kill unit made their debut at 3:13 of the second period when Brian Salcido was put away for tripping. Almost doubling the Moose in shots 14-8, the Rivermen couldn't open the scoring during the short two-minutes and play resumed to even-strength.

Near the midway mark of the game, the home team benefited from their second powerplay when Mario Bliznak was sent to the sin bin for holding, but like their first advantage, the Rivermen couldn't beat Schneider.

The Rivermen finally opened the scoring a mere 33 seconds into the final frame. Positioned directly in front of Schneider's crease, Nicholas Drazenovic beat the 23 year-old goaltender on his blocker side to put his club up by one.

The Moose battled back and their hard work was finally rewarded at 9:21. On the 18th Moose shot of the night, Matt Pettinger's wrister went off Marty Murray's shoulder and then into the net to knot the game at one.
