Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA - Royals first baseman Justin Huber belted two home runs - incredibly becoming the tenth Omaha batter to do that in a game this season - and two other round-trippers helped the Royals rally for an 11-5 victory over the Iowa Cubs Tuesday night before a crowd of 1,945 at Rosenblatt Stadium.
Omaha (69-69) trailed 4-0 going into the bottom of the fourth and it appeared as if Royals right-hander Ryan Jensen (2-10) might lose his ninth consecutive start. However, Calvin Pickering got the Royals on the board by hitting a solo shot to left-center with one out in the fourth and, with two away, Huber blasted a two-run shot over the batters' eye in center field to cut Iowa's lead to 4-3.
The Royals were down 5-4 with two on and two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Omaha's number-nine batter, Jared Price, chased Iowa starter Jon Leicester (2-8) by turning on his 1-2 delivery and yanking a three-run homer inside the left field foul pole, putting the Royals on top 7-5.
The Royals scored four more times in the seventh, capped off by a three-run homer to right field by Huber on another 1-2 pitch, this time from Walt Nolen. Huber's five RBI were one shy of a single-game high for a Royal in 2005. Huber himself owns that mark, having knocked in six runs on August 2nd at Tacoma, when he led Omaha to a 7-1 win over the Rainiers.
Jensen finally ended his eight-start losing streak which began when he was sent down by the Kansas City Royals back on July 21. He provided Omaha with a quality start Tuesday night, giving up only three earned runs (five total) on eight hits over six innings. Shane Nance and Dave Elder combined to work three scoreless stanzas of relief.
The Royals moved back to within three games of first place Nashville in the PCL's American Conference North. The Sounds scheduled game at Memphis Tuesday was rained out for a second consecutive night, meaning those two clubs will attempt to play back-to-back doubleheaders the next two nights.
Game 3 of the Royals-Cubs series is Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.: RH Sergio Mitre (5-5, 4.32) vs. RH Denny Bautista (0-1, 4.91). Air-time is 6:45 p.m. on Magic 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.
