
Sidewinders fall 4-3 to Portland

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Sidewinders lost 4-3 to the Portland Beavers for the second straight evening. The Sidewinders received a solid outing from relief pitcher turned starter RHP Kerry Ligtenberg. Ligtenberg went 4.2 innings giving up 3 runs, all earned with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts but was credited with the loss in just his second start in professional baseball. The Sidewinders made it interesting in the 9th when RF Josh Kroeger scored a run on a throwing error by RHP Scott Cassidy to cut the lead to 4-3 Portland. Tucson couldn't capitalize though with runners on 1st and 3rd with no one out recording 3 consecutives outs to give the Beavers the 4-3 win.
The Sidewinders were led offensively by 2B Keoni DeRenne and RF Josh Kroeger. DeRenne went 2-for-5 with a run. Kroeger went 2-for-3 with a run, a double, an RBI and a walk.
LHP Javier Lopez was strong in relief of Ligtenberg going 2.1 innings giving up no runs on 2 hits. The outing by Lopez drops his ERA to a team leading 2.42. LHP Randy Choate also pitched well in his 1 inning of work giving up no runs on 1 hit.
The loss drops the Sidewinders to 65-73 on the season, 4-6 against the Beavers. Game 3 of the 4-game set takes place tomorrow at Tucson Electric Park with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM. The scheduled starting pitchers are RHP Edgar Gonzalez (10-5, 4.48) for Tucson and RHP Tim Stauffer (2-4, 5.57) for Portland.
