Portland Beavers News Release

TUCSON, Ariz. - Scott Cassidy pitched out of a ninth-inning jam to save the Portland Beavers' 4-3 win over the Tucson Sidewinders Tuesday night at Tucson Electric Park.

After allowing the first two batters to reach in the ninth inning, Cassidy gave up the Sidewinders' third run when he made an errant throw to first on a Juan Brito bunt, allowing Brito to reach, Josh Kroeger to score and Sergio Santos to advance to third.

With the tying run on third, the go-ahead run on first and no outs, Cassidy struck out the next two hitters and got Keoni De Renne to ground out to first to preserve the win and give the Beavers (67-70) a four-game winning streak.

Greg Sain's RBI-single in the eighth inning provided the winning margin.

Kerry Ligtenberg (3-3) took the loss in his longest outing of the season. He had not pitched more than three innings in 36 appearances coming into Tuesday's game and held the Beavers scoreless for four innings before being replaced with two outs in the fifth inning.

With one out in the fifth and a run already in on a Kennard Jones RBI-single, Josh Barfield found a hole up the middle and laced a single to bring in Jones and Dustin Delluchi.

Ryan Snare (4-1) picked up his third consecutive win by holding Tucson (65-73) to two runs on seven hits in 5+ innings. He walked one and struck out two.

Carlos Quentin scored Tucson's first run in the fourth inning on a Kroeger ground-rule double to right field. De Renne scored the Sidewinders second run when Corey Myers grounded into a sixth-inning double play.

The Beavers play game three of their four-game series with the Tucson Sidewinders Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Tucson, Ariz.
