
Howe Pitches Well in Aviators 2-1 Win at Lake Erie

AVON, Oh. - The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, got a quality start from Seafth Howe, who allowed just one run in seven innings and struck out seven, in a 2-1 win on road at Lake Erie Sunday evening.
Lake Erie (21-23) got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first without the benefit of a hit. Craig Hertler walked to start the inning and later scored on an Andrew Davis sacrifice fly to right field.
Rockford (14-30) got both of its runs in third inning. Jeff Kremer walked to start the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Elvin Rodriguez. Brandon Newton hit a single to plate Kremer and then Newton advanced to second on the throw to the plate. Newton scored two batter later on an RBI infield single from Edgar Corcino to give the Aviators a 2-1 lead and finish the scoring.
Nathan O'Bryan pitched a scoreless eighth and Nick Cicio struck out two as he pitched a perfect ninth to collect his ninth save of the season.
Lake Erie starter Matt Rein pitched six innings and allowed two runs on five hits, struck out two and walked four on his way to taking the loss for the Crushers.
Rockford returns home to Aviators Stadium in Love Park Tuesday to take on the Schaumburg Boomers at 7:05 p.m. on 50̢̉ Hot Dog Night, sponsored by GFS Marketplace and Village Hearth.
