CornBelters Win Streak Ends at 4 in Loss to Grizzlies

NORMAL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, ended a four-game winning streak in a 3-2 loss to the Gateway Grizzlies on Sunday at the Corn Crib.

The CornBelters take Monday off but continue the home-stand on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game against the Joliet Slammers.

The CornBelters broke through in the third inning when Santiago Chirino reached on a bloop double to right and scored on a looping base hit in nearly the same place down the right field line by Mike Schwartz.

The Grizzlies grabbed the lead in the seventh when they reached Belters starter Jose Trinidad for two hits and a walk to load the bases. Michael Pair drew another walk to tie the game and end Trinidad's night followed by a two-run single up the middle by Max Ayarza to give the guests a 3-1 lead.

The Belters tallied in the eighth when Mike Mobbs led off with a single to right, moved to second on a fielder's choice and scored on a base hit to right by Chirino to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Tim Brown (7-2) worked eight innings in the win, giving up six hits while striking out six without a walk. Trinidad (4-1) took the loss. Richard Barrett pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save.
