Gateway Grizzlies News Release

NORMAL, IL - Tim Brown became the second Gateway Grizzlies pitcher to seven wins as they edged the Normal CornBelters 3-2 Sunday night at the Corn Crib.

Brown (7-2), who moved to 5-0 in five road starts, scattered six hits and allowed only two runs in eight innings of work. The right-hander from St. Louis, MO had five strikeouts and no walks. He joins fellow starting pitcher Ja'Vaun West in the seven-win club.

Richard Barrett finished off the game with a scoreless ninth inning to notch his 11th save of the season. Barrett hasn't allowed a run in 13 consecutive appearances.

Normal (25-20) took the first lead of the game in the third inning. Santiago Chirino hit a two-out double and came in to score on a Mike Schwartz RBI single.

The Grizzlies (29-15) didn't answer until the seventh when they took advantage of struggling control from Normal starting pitcher, Jose Trinidad.

Jet Butler led off the inning with an infield single and was moved to third on a Jon Myers double. Antone DeJesus drew a walk and Michael Pair picked up an RBI walk to tie the score. Max Ayarza then drilled a two-run single to center to give the Grizzlies a two-run lead.

Chirino picked up an RBI single in the eighth against Brown, but the Grizzlies held on for their seventh one-run win of the season.

Butler and Ayarza paced the Grizzlies with two hits each.

The Grizzlies stayed three games ahead of Schaumburg in the Frontier League West Division.

The Grizzlies have an off day Monday before beginning a series with the River City Rascals Tuesday in O'Fallon, MO. Ja'Vaun West (7-1) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.
