
Miners Finish Sweep over Joliet

Marion, IL - The Miners earned their second sweep of the season as they defeated the Joliet Slammers 4-3 on Sunday. Steven Liddle hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning off Slammers reliever Lucas Goodgion to give the Miners a 4-2 lead. Preston Vancil was solid through six innings as he allowed two runs and four walks off four hits. Vancil recorded four strikeouts in his no-decision. The Miners are now 26-19 on the season.
Joliet took the lead in the top of the second inning off Miners starter Preston Vancil as Seth Schwindenhammer hit a two-run home run to give the Slammers a 2-0 lead. The Miners came right back as Cory Harrilchak hit a RBI single off Slammers starter Chuck Lofgren to score Jason Ganek and cut the Slammers lead to one, 2-1.
Carlos Mendez tied the game in the bottom of the third inning off Lofgren as he hit a RBI triple to score Cannon Lester. Lester led off the inning with a single to now extend his hitting streak to nine games.
Race Parmenter earned his second save of the season despite allowing a sacrifice fly by Marquis Riley to cut the Miners lead to 4-3. Jon Mark Abbey and Pete Perez pitched scoreless innings in relief. Perez earned his second win of the season.
The Miners are off on Monday but resume play in Crestwood, Illinois on Tuesday at Standard Bank Stadium as the Miners will play the Windy City ThunderBolts. Miners right-handed pitcher Travis Bradshaw (2-0, 2.34 ERA) will be on the mound as he'll be opposed by fellow right-handed pitcher Daniel Cropper (4-2, 5.02 ERA). First pitch will get underway at 6:05 pm from Standard Bank Stadium. The Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregaem Show will get underway at 5:45 pm on the Miners Radio Network and southernillinoisminers.com.
