Evansville Otters News Release
(SCHAUMBURG, ILLINOIS) - Evansville Otters (45-29) All-star infielder Shayne Houck hit his 20th home run of the season on Tuesday, setting an Evansville Otters single season record, in the team's 12-5 loss at the Schaumburg Boomers.
The home run passed Jeff Goldbach who hit 19 home runs back in the 2005 season and adds to his Frontier League leading total this season.
Evansville never led in the game as Schaumburg scored in each of the first five innings.
RHP Trevor Walch yielded a run in the first and another in the second before the Boomers added on five runs in the third.
Down 7-0, the Otters rallied back for three runs in the fourth. Catcher Kolin Conner recorded a two-run double and infielder Cory Urquhart added a run producing infield single to close the gap. The hit by Urquhart was his third of the night, falling one shy of tying a career high.
Unfortunately for Evansville, Schaumburg surged back for another three runs in the bottom of the inning for the 10-3 edge.
Phillip Wilson added an RBI single for Evansville in the fifth only to see reliever Brandon Shimo allow another two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Houck's historic home run was hit in the ninth inning as reliever Ross Spurgeon set down the Otters after that for the 12-5 win.
Houck also extended his hitting streak to 13 straight games with his home run. Outfielder Jeremy Nowak and John Schultz both moved their hit streaks to eight. First baseman Nik Balog ended the night 2-for-5 with a run scored.
Evansville will look to even up the series on Wednesday in a special 1:00 pm CDT first pitch at Schaumburg Baseball Stadium. LHP Jose Velez (1-2, 2.55 ERA) will start for the Otters against Boomers righty Eddie Cody (4-1, 2.75). The game will be broadcast live on WUEV 91.5 FM. Play by play announcer Mike Radomski will be on the air with the pregame show beginning at 12:45 pm CDT.
