
Slammers Drop Series Opener to Lake Erie 7-4 on Tuesday

The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy- lost to Lake Erie 7-4 on Tuesday night.
The Crushers scored in the 1st inning on a RBI single from Andrew Davis off Joliet starter Andrew Busby. They scored again in the second inning on a solo homer from Ryan Hutchinson. The Slammers responded with a four-run 2nd inning of their own. Max Casper executed a safety squeeze RBI bunt and that was followed by a JD Dorgan RBI single. Andrian English added a run-scoring single and Grant DeBruin contributed a sacrifice fly to give Joliet a 4-2 lead. Lake Erie scored on a double play in the 4th and then in the 5th Trevor Stevens drove in a run to tie it at 4-4. Andrew Davis gave the Crushers back the lead at 5-4 on with a long double to left-center. It moved to 6-4 on a run-scoring single from Anderson Hidalgo. That hit ended the day for Busby and Sam Moore came on with two outs in the 5th inning. The score became 7-4 on a RBI single from Stevens in the 6th but the next runner, Ryan Hutchinson was thrown out at the plate by Seth Granger when he failed to slide into home plate and JD Dorgan tagged him out. Chris Epps had a good night with a double and three walks drawn. Adam Giacalone collected two more hits. English contributed three singles, drew a walk, drove in a run and make a spectacular defensive play in the 9th. Newly signed Joliet reliever John Maloney pitched the last two innings and retired all six men he faced, three by strikeout.
In the middle of the 8th inning, the Slammers gave away $750 to lucky fan, Carolyn Hansen, as part of their Amazing August promotion. Each home game in August will see one fan go home with at least $250 dollars. The higher that night's attendance, the higher the payout will be. The payout on Friday, August 1st to a lucky winner was $5000.
The home-stand continues vs. the Lake Erie Crushers on Wednesday at 7:05pm and concludes with a 7:05pm Thirsty Thursday featuring 2-buck Bud and Bud Light drafts as well as 2-buck Pepsi products.
