Hot Rods Drop Opener against South Bend, 8-1

SOUTH BEND, IN - The Bowling Green Hot Rods opened up their final road series of the regular season with an 8-1 loss against the South Bend Cubs tonight.

The Cubs got on the board right away in the first inning. A three-run double from SS Rafael Narea gave South Bend a 3-0 lead through one inning.

In the second, three consecutive hits led to two more runs, as DH Jose Gutierrez hit a two-run single to make it 5-0.

CF Jim Haley hit a home run in the sixth to get the Hot Rods on the board, and it made the score 5-1.

South Bend scored another run in the sixth and added two more in the seventh, making it 8-1, Cubs.

RHP Tobias Myers (10-6, 3.71) took the loss. He threw four and two thirds innings, allowing 10 hits and five runs (two earned), striking out one.

RHP Mikey York (1-0, 3.18) will get the start for the Hot Rods tomorrow. South Bend will have LHP Drew Smyly on the hill for a rehab appearance before RHP Javier Assad (5-6, 4.53) will relieve him. First pitch from Four Winds Field is set for 7:05pm. Eastern time.
