Homers Lead Way in Back and Forth Affair

FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders topped the Amarillo Sod Poodles 7-5 on Tuesday night from Riders Field.

The Riders (47-31) did not take long to push across the first run of the game. Bubba Thompson led off with a solo home run, giving Frisco the 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Josh Stowers added a two-run homer of his own in the fourth inning, putting the Riders ahead 3-0.

The Sod Poodles (33-45) then responded with a five-run sixth inning, capped off with a Ryder Jones two-run homer, and Amarillo took a 5-3 lead in the sixth.

Frisco trimmed the lead when Stowers legged out an infield RBI single in the sixth inning, scoring Sam Huff.

In the seventh, Huff drove in the tying run with an RBI single. Later in the frame, Blaine Crim delivered his first home run at the Double-A level, a two-run blast that gave the Riders the lead 7-5.

Grant Anderson (2-0) earned the win out of the bullpen as he tossed 1.1 innings, striking out one.

Blake Workman (1-5) took the loss, turning in one inning and ceding three earned runs.

The Riders and Sod Poodles will be back in action on Wednesday, August 4th at 7:05 p.m. for game two of the six-game series. Frisco hands RHP Noah Bremer (3-1, 4.69) the ball against LHP Kenny Hernandez (0-1, 3.71).

On Wednesday, Back to School Week presented by CoServ continues with a drawstring backpack giveaway to kids 12 and younger.
