Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Allentown, Pennsylvania - The Lehigh Valley Coquis (26-27) slugged their way to a 5-3 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (27-27) on Thursday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Andres Chaparro walked to lead off the second for the RailRiders and Elijah Dunham then tripled him home. One out later, Billy McKinney doubled home Dunham to put the RailRiders ahead 2-0.
Oswald Peraza drilled a homer, his fourth of the series, in the third to extend the RailRiders lead to 3-0.
John Hicks and Vimael Machin each singled to open the last of the third for the Coquis. Jake Cave then walloped a game-tying three-run homer, his eighth of the season.
The game stayed tied until the sixth. Esteban Quiroz doubled with two outs and Hicks followed with a two-run moonshot of a homer, his first of the season, to put the Coquis for the first and ultimately final time in the game.
Jace Vines (S, 1) ran into some trouble in the ninth, but stranded the tying run at second to convert the save for the Coquis after allowing a single and a walk.
Jeremy Walker (4-0) spun 1.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen to collect the win for the Coquis, allowing a hit and two walks while striking out one.
James Norwood (0-3) suffered the loss for the RailRiders, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out two in one inning.
The Coquis and RailRiders meet again on Friday, June 2, for game four of their series. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
