Holmstrom, Cullity Recalled by Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers, proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, announced today forward Josh Holmstrom and defenseman Patrick Cullity have been recalled from loan to the Worcester Railers H.C. of the ECHL.

Holmstrom, 27, collected five points (two goals, three assists) and eight penalty minutes in 26 games with the Sound Tigers earlier this season. He also recorded two points (one goal, one assist) and a plus-one rating in seven games with the Railers. Last season, Holmstrom had seven points (two goals, five assists) in 66 games with Bridgeport and scored his first AHL goal on Nov. 23, 2016 against the Hartford Wolf Pack.

A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., Holmstrom has 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in 106 career AHL games with the Sound Tigers. He also collected 59 points (31 goals, 28 assists) in 131 ECHL contests with the Railers, Missouri Mavericks and Toledo Walleye. During the 2014-15 season, Holmstrom helped Toledo reach the ECHL's Western Conference Finals, notching four points (one goal, three assists) in 21 Kelly Cup playoff games.

Prior to turning pro, the 6'0, 181-pound forward played four seasons at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell from 2010-14. He registered 74 points (31 goals, 43 assists) in 154 games and helped the River Hawks to the 2013 NCAA (Hockey East) title as a junior. In addition, Holmstrom served as team captain during his senior season in 2013-14. He is the younger brother of Sound Tigers captain Ben Holmstrom.

Cullity, 30, played 22 games with Bridgeport this season and notched two assists. He also appeared in 12 games with Worcester and recorded a plus-four rating and six penalty minutes. The eighth-year defenseman had five assists and 52 penalty minutes in 36 games with the Sound Tigers last season and ranked third on the team in penalty kill time.

A Boston native, Cullity has recorded 21 points (one goal, 20 assists) in 168 AHL games between the Sound Tigers, Syracuse Crunch, Abbotsford Heat, Springfield Falcons and St. John's IceCaps. He also boasts 87 points (14 goals, 73 assists) in 307 ECHL contests with the Railers, Mavericks, South Carolina Stingrays, Utah Grizzlies and Idaho Steelheads.

Prior to turning pro, the 6'2, 200-pound defenseman played four seasons at the University of Vermont, collecting 25 points (two goals, 23 assists) in 145 games with the Catamounts.
