October 14, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
Airdrie, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club, Rotary Club of Airdrie and Airdrie Public Library today launched a community fundraising program that will help raise money for several non-profit agencies and the Airdrie Public Library.
The campaign will allow any Airdrie community group, including sports teams, service clubs and charities, to raise funds by selling tickets to the Dec. 30 Hitmen vs. Lethbridge Hurricanes game at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The December game, branded Airdrie Day, will serve as the culmination of the program with concourse and intermission features built to celebrate the City of Airdrie.
"A key component of the Calgary Hitmen philosophy is to give back," said Mike Moore, Hitmen General Manager and Vice President of Business Operations. "We are thrilled to partner with a neighbouring community that has been a great supporter of our team. This initiative will not only raise funds for deserving groups but will celebrate civic pride as we honour and host Airdrians on Airdrie Day."
In addition, proceeds from the RE/MAX 50-50 on Dec. 30 will be donated to the Airdrie Public Library with details on other in-game events, such as raffle sales, to be announced at a later date.
"On behalf of the Rotary Club of Airdrie, I am thrilled to be partnering with the Calgary Hitmen to champion this exciting campaign for the community of Airdrie," said Perry Logan, Airdrie Day Committee Chair. "Not only will local groups have the opportunity to raise much needed funds through advanced ticket sales and game night fundraising but we are also giving Airdrians a chance to come to together for an evening of fun and celebration at the Scotiabank Saddledome."
The inaugural program will see the Rotary Club of Airdrie take the lead on the distribution of tickets with interested groups asked to contact Perry Logan at airdrieday@gmail.com.
"This is an exciting time for the Airdrie Public Library (APL)," said Marilyne Aalhus, Airdrie Public Library Fund Development and Marketing Co-ordinator. "With a new facility on the horizon and continuous growth with our programs and services, we rely more and more on community support. By teaming up with the Calgary Hitmen and Airdrie Day, APL is not only benefiting from much needed funding but is also getting great exposure."
The Hitmen, who lead the Western Hockey League's Central Division with a record of 5-1-0-1, return to action on Thursday, Oct. 15 to host the Moose Jaw Warriors. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
