Tigers Get Bounced by Pats 6-2

October 14, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB -- The Medicine Hat Tigers faced adversity for the first time on Tuesday night. Losers of their last 3 straight games, the Tigers and their 7 rookies needed to overcome the slide and push past the visiting Regina Pats. The Tigers were also without last year's leading scorer Trevor Cox who injured himself in the Tigers previous game against Lethbridge.

The opening frame was quite even between the two teams as they battled hard. A new look top line for the Tigers had the usual faces in Steven Owre and Cole Sanford but were joined by an enthusiastic Mark Rassell. The trio were dynamtie, creating offense and protecting the puck, hemming the Pats in their own end on numerous occassions. Nick Schneider got the start again for the Tabbies, turning away 16 of 17 shots. The only puck that made it past Schneider was a screened point shot by Sergey Zborovskiy to open the scoring.

Heading into the second period, the Tigers still had their persistent forecheck on display for the 4000+ fans in attendance. The Tabbies hard work was tested as they started to get away from their usual disciplined game and let the Pats on another power play. Former Tiger Connor Hobbs wristed a puck past Schneider to put the visitors up 2-0. But just 3 minutes later the newly formed top line answered back as Rassell was the recipient of a great pass from Steven Owre to cut into the lead 2-1, a score which held for the remainder of the period.

The final frame saw the Tigers get on the receiving end of a penalty call and headed to a power play early. However, Pats forward Austin Wagner had other plans as he stole a loose puck and streaked down the wall fending off a Tigers defender to wrap the puck around an outstretched Schneider to increase the lead to 3-1. Moments later rookie forward Max Gerlach responded as he was in the right place in the right time to knock home a loose puck to complete the power play and climb back to a 3-2 score.

The Tigers hard work and effort on this night was for not as the Pats would score 3 more times in the third period, including another power play marker to seal the game and give the visitors as 6-2 victory.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:

1. SAM STEEL - REG - (1G, 2A)

2. CONNOR HOBBS - REG - (1G)

3. MARK RASSELL - MH - (1G)

The Tigers are back in action on the weekend for their first back to back home games at the Canalta Centre against division foes, Kootenay Ice and Calgary Hitmen. For tickets call 1-855-985-5000 or buy online at ticketmaster.ca!
