CHARLESTON - Hickory scored a pair of early runs and kept Charleston at an arm's length in a 3-2 final decision in front of 3,192 fans in South Atlantic League action at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park Wednesday evening.

With the triumph, the Crawdads win the final three games of the series in improving to 29-23, 69-51 overall, while the Dogs fall to 22-30, 48-74 overall.

Hickory took a 2-0 lead in the first, scoring both times with two outs. Alejandro Selen drilled the first pitch he saw from Charleston's Vidal Nuno for a RBI triple off the left-centerfield wall, while Tomas Telis brought him in with a RBI single.

Crawdads starter Will Lamb, a second round pick this year by the Rangers out of Clemson, shackled the RiverDogs on just two hits through 4.2 innings, with three walks and four strikeouts.

Nuno (1-1) did not allow another run after the first inning, permitting seven hits overall through 6.0 complete frames, with one walk and a season-high eight strikeouts.

Charleston found its way onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth by way of Kevin Mahoney's RBI triple off the base of the left-centerfield wall, scoring Shane Brown from first who singled the lead off the frame and cutting the score to 2-1 Crawdads.

Josh Richmond put Hickory back up by two in the seventh, walloping his ninth home run of the year off Francisco Rondon for a 3-1 cushion.

The Dogs came right back after the stretch against reliever Jose Monegro (1-0), as Jeff Farnham hit a two-out single and came around to score on Jose Toussen's RBI double, making the score 3-2.

Jorge Marban silenced Charleston the last 2.0 innings posting five strikeouts to earn his second save of the year

Charleston hits the road Thursday for a four-game series against the Augusta GreenJackets, a San Francisco Giants affiliate. Game one, scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start time, has RiverDogs right-hander Nathan Forer (2-5, 4.66 ERA) battling Augusta southpaw Gaspar Santiago (3-6, 4.17 ERA).
