Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Greensboro, NC - Adam Duvall drove home half of the eight runs scored by the Augusta GreenJackets in their 8-4 win on Wednesday afternoon against the Greensboro Grasshoppers as the GreenJackets earned the series split with the 'Hoppers. The win wraps up a 5-2 road trip for the GreenJackets, who'll host 13 of their final 18 regular season games.
Duvall tied the game for the GreenJackets in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run home run to left field - his 21st of the season. Previously, the Grasshoppers had scored twice with three hits in the first inning off Ryan Bradley. Duvall's blast moves him into second place in the franchise's single-season home run leaderboard, one off of a tie for the team record in the category. Entering his fourth inning at-bat, Duvall was just 3-20 since his return after missing 17 games with a hamstring injury.
After the Grasshoppers took a 3-2 lead in their half of the fourth on a sacrifice fly, Duvall came through again for Augusta in the fifth. His bases-loaded, two-run single put the GreenJackets ahead 4-3 and they'd never trail again. Josh Mazzola's 12th home run of the year in the sixth pushed the advantage to 5-3 while the GreenJackets got three more in the eighth on a wild pitch and RBI hits by Jeff Arnold and Bobby Haney.
Greensboro threatened late, scoring twice in the eighth on Ryan Fisher's two-run double to cut the Augusta lead to 8-5. Fisher was thrown out at third trying to take an extra base on the throw home to end the inning, however, as the GreenJackets escaped further trouble in the eighth. The Grasshoppers brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth after Brett Bochy allowed back-to-back singles to open the frame. Bochy buckled down to retire the next three hitters to earn his sixth save of the season.
Bradley (3-1) earned his second straight win with a resilient five-inning effort for the GreenJackets. After running into trouble in the first, Bradley allowed a total of three run on six hits and a walk while striking out three.
Alex Caldera (1-1) took the loss for the Grasshoppers, firing five innings and allowing four runs on three hits and a season-high five walks. Caldera struck out six in the loss.
The GreenJackets return home to open an eight-game homestand on Thursday night with the first of a four-game series with the Charleston RiverDogs. Gaspar Santiago (3-6, 4.17) gets the ball for the GreenJackets in the opener and he'll face Charleston righty Nathan Forer (2-5, 4.66). It'll be another Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark with dollar domestic drafts and soft drinks available at ballpark concession stands thanks to The Vue and 95 Rock. First pitch comes at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50, airing on WRDW-AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
Single-game tickets for any GreenJackets home game are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
