August 17, 2011 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (27-25) won their 3rd straight game with a 5-4 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Wednesday night. Lakewood was aided by 4 costly errors committed by the Shorebirds defense, and they took advantage. Delmarva led it 4-0 after 3 innings, but the BlueClaws stormed back with 3 runs in the 6th and 2 in the 7th to win it 5-4.

It was a wild game that saw Lakewood's starter Ervis Manzanillo walk 7 batters and give up 4 runs on just 1 hit in 2.1 innings. But, the BlueClaws bullpen was fantastic keeping them right in the game with 6.2 shutout innings in relief. Hector Neris didn't allow a hit and walked just 1 over 3.2 innings. Then, Tyler Knigge allowed just 2 hits and struck out 2 over the final 3 innings. Knigge got the win to move to 3-3 on the year.

Jim Murphy put Lakewood on the board with a 2 RBI single in the 6th inning to cut the deficit to 4-2. Then, Anthony Hewitt drove in Murphy with a single right back up the middle to make it 4-3. Lakewood caught a huge break scoring 2 runs off of Delmarva reliever DJ Ferguson (1-1) on 1 hit and 2 costly errors.

Lakewood wins the series 3-1 from Delmarva and now will welcome in the Greensboro Grasshoppers for 4 games beginning on Thursday. Game 1 will feature 2 lefties on the mound with Jesse Biddle (5-7, 3.11 ERA) starting for Lakewood, and Greg Nappo (4-0, 4.50 ERA) starting for Greensboro. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Thursday night.
