Two-Out Offense Powers West Virginia to Series Win

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 17, 2011) -- The West Virginia Power scored four runs with two outs to defeat the Kannapolis Intimidators, 4-2, on Wednesday for a three-games-to-one series win. Kannapolis struggled offensively for the second straight night, coming up scoreless through the final eight innings.

West Virginia reliever Justin Ennis (4-1) earned the win with 3 and 1/3 scoreless relief innings, and Jason Townsend tossed a perfect ninth for the save (10). Intimidators starter Brad Furnish (0-1) took the loss for Kannapolis.

The Intimidators struck in the bottom of the first inning. After Carlos Sanchez and Marcus Semien singled, Dan Black smacked his league- leading 34th double to drive them in.

West Virginia's Kevin Mort tied the game in the top of the second with a two-out, two-run single to right field. In the fifth inning, the Power got two men on base against Brad Furnish, who was lifted from the game with two outs and runners on second and third. Chase Lyles ripped a two-out, two-run double off Nick McCully down the left field line to put the Power ahead, 4-2.

Furnish finished the night allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and a walk in 4 and 2/3 innings.
