October 4, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
In the American Hockey League's 75th season, the HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club will look to become just the second team in league history to win three straight Calder Cups. HERSHEY'S title defense begins in earnest this Saturday, October 9 with the 2010-11 regular season opener at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton against the Penguins. The season opening three-game road trip continues Sunday in Rochester before heading to Binghamton next Friday, October 15.
HERSHEY will raise its 2009-19 Calder Cup banner and celebrate last year's champions in the team's regular season home opener on Saturday, October 16 against Rochester. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
Chasing history: The BEARS will try in 2010-11 to become just the second team in the 75- year history of the league to win three straight Calder Cup titles. The only other team to win three Cups in a row were the Springfield Indians from 1959- 62.
Preseason is history: HERSHEY concluded the 2010 preseason with a 3-2 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at Giant Center. Defenseman Zach Miskovic, who led the BEARS in goals with three this preseason, scored two Sunday against the Tigers.
Roster reduced by seven: The BEARS assigned goaltender Jared Demichiel, right wing David de Kastrozza, center Jake Hauswirth, defenseman Dustin Stevenson and center Anton Gustafsson to South Carolina Sunday night. Defenseman Wes O'Neill was released from his player tryout contract, and left wing Kaleigh Schrock was assigned to Fort Wayne (IHL).
Practice schedule: HERSHEY will skate Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Giant Center for practice this week.
MVP Aucoin returns: Center Keith Aucoin, who led the AHL with a personal best 106 points in 2009-10, returns to the lineup this season for the Chocolate and White. 18 of his 106 points last season came at the expense of this Saturday's opponent, the Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Upcoming promotions: Saturday, October 16 is PNC Bank Magnet Schedule Night, when the BEARS take on the Rochester Americans. The first 8,000 fans through the gates will receive a free 2010-11 magnet schedule, courtesy of PNC Bank. There will also be an AHL 75th
anniversary Retro Bears jersey auction following the game on October 16.
