
Edmonton Assigns Two More to OKC; Release Six for Purpose of Assignment to Barons

Oklahoma City Barons News Release
Oklahoma City - The Edmonton Oilers, parent club of the Oklahoma City Barons assigned forwards Chris Vande Velde and Linus Omark to the Barons earlier today. In a separate transaction, the Oilers also placed six players on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Oklahoma City including: defensemen Shawn Belle and Richard Petiot along with forwards Ryan O'Marra, Alex Giroux, Ben Ondrus and Liam Reddox.
Vande Velde and Omark will come directly to Oklahoma City. The other six players are eligible to be claimed by another NHL team. If they are unclaimed at the end of the 24-hour waiver period, they will be assigned to Oklahoma City.
Goaltender Martin Gerber has also been assigned to the Barons roster. The 5-11, 200-pounder from Burgdorf, Switzerland is entering his 11th season as a pro. He has played 240 games at the NHL level with Anaheim, Ottawa, Carolina and Toronto.
The Barons season opener is this Saturday at home against the Houston Aeros. Faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets including the Cox Convention Center box office, online at ticketmaster.com or by phone at 1-800-745-3000.

More than 85 percent of today's NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the ninth year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America.
NOTE: The Barons released Vladimir Nikiforov, Anthony Aiello and Mike Egener from their tryout agreements. All three have already signed with ECHL teams. Nikiforov and Egener have signed with Florida while Aiello has signed with Stockton.
