Hens' Offense Stymies Louisville in Game Two Win
April 15, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Hens were back at it in Louisville on a beautiful Friday night coming off of their 2-0 victory in game one of the series. Once again, the Hens would prevail for their second win in a row, as things were clicking on both sides of the ball behind Josh Turley's first start of the 2016 campaign.
Louisville struck first off Turley in the second as Jermaine Curtis doubled to left field scoring both Steve Selsky and Brandon Allen. Carlos Truinfel added to the scoring in the second with a double of his own scoring Curtis, as it looked to be a short evening on the mound for Turley in his Hens' debut.
The Hens' offense would not be out done on Friday night, as they responded with nine unanswered runs of their own. Getting the hit parade started was non other than Cameron Maybin who slugged his second double of his short rehab assignment, scoring Thomas Field and putting Toledo on the board. Dixon Machado notched an RBI in the third as well on a ground out to first scoring Miguel Gonzalez, and putting the Hens within striking distance headed to the middle innings.
It was Miguel Gonzalez's big night at the plate that tied the game, and eventually helped put the game out of reach for the Bats. In the fifth Gonzalez put a Tim Adleman offering over the wall in left for his first round tripper of the season. In the sixth, the hot Hens' offense took the lead with two 2 RBI doubles from both Jordany Valdespin, and Argenis Diaz taking a commanding 7-3 lead into the eighth.
Gonzalez added to his solid night at the plate in the eighth, off of Louisville reliever Pedro Villarreal driving in Wynton Bernard with an RBI single, and extending the lead to 9-3, where it would stand. Jordany Valdespin, Steven Moya, and Miguel Gonzalez each finished with two hits a piece on the evening.
Turley's night on the mound ended after 5 1/3 innings as the crafty lefty scattered three runs on five hits, striking out six in route to his first win of the season. The Hen pen piggybacked Turley's debut with a combined 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief from Dustin Molleken, Jose Valdez, Blaine Hardy, and Michael Crotta.
Both Detroit Tigers' outfielder Cameron Maybin and left-handed reliever Blaine Hardy continued to show signs of progress in their short rehab stints, as they both look to be back in a Tigers' uniform within the next few weeks. The Mud Hens are back in action in game three of the series on Saturday night in Louisville. First pitch is slated for 6:05 PM, as Lucas Harrell toes the rubber for Toledo.
