Toledo Drops the First Game to Reading 4-3

(Toledo, OH) Kyle Bonis scored four minutes into the third period to erase a 3-1 deficit but the Royals took game one 4-3 Friday night at the Huntington Center. Reading leads the best of seven series one game to none with game two coming Saturday night at the Huntington Center.

The Reading Royals used their power play to take an early lead on the Walleye. The Royals first power play goal came at 9:09 of the first from Kevin Sundher. Reading made it 2-0 at 12:43 when Austin Farley tapped in a rebound right at the side of the net. The Walleye cut into the lead when A.J. Jenks from the top of the right circle fed a pass in front to Evan Rankin who wristed in at 15:12. Brandon Alderson on the power play blasted a shot from between the circles past Jeff Lerg with just three seconds left in the opening period.

The Walleye got their power play going in the second period when Tylor Spink jumped on a rebound at 12:35 to pull the Walleye within one. Early in the third period, Kyle Bonis rocked a shot over the shoulder of Reading goaltender Martin Ouellette to tie the score at three. The Royals took the lead for good when Cam Reid lifted a wrist shot past Jeff Lerg at 14:55.
