
Haydar Named AHL All-Star

The awards are piling up for Lake Erie Monsters right wing Darren Haydar. On Monday, the eight-year veteran was named the American Hockey League's Player of the Week. Today, the AHL announced that Haydar will be a member of the Canadian All-Stars in the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic. It will be the third AHL All-Star appearance of Haydar's career, and he is the fourth Monsters player in the three-year history of the team to represent Lake Erie in the All-Star contest.
Haydar currently leads the Monsters in points (31), goals (15), assists (16), power play points (17), power play goals (9), power play assists (8), game-winning goals (3), is tied for the lead with two shorthanded points (1G, 1A) and leads the team with nine multi-point games.
The Milton, Ontario, native is tied for third in the AHL in goals and tied for ninth in points, and has recorded 17 points in his last 11games. Haydar is the AHL's career scoring leader among active players with 216 goals and 351 assists for 567 points in 528 games. He is also the league's all-time playoff scoring leader with 135 points (59G, 76A) in 105 postseason games. Haydar was the 2007 AHL MVP, 2003 AHL Rookie of the Year and has won two Calder Cup Championships.
The 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Game will be played on January 19th at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine. The Canadian All-Star Team is comprised of 24 players - 13 forwards, 8 defensemen and 3 goaltenders - born in Canada. AHL fans determined the starting lineup via online balloting, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the roster (including Haydar). They will face PlanetUSA (comprised of non-Canadian born players), the roster for which will be announced on Wednesday.
