Ennis Named To Canadian AHL All-Star Team

Springfield, Mass. - The American Hockey League announced this afternoon that Tyler Ennis of the Portland Pirates has been selected to play for the Canadian AHL All-Star Team in the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic being held January 18th and 19th at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Ennis, a 20 year-old from Edmonton, Alberta, is tied for the Pirates lead in scoring with 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points in 34 games. His 28 points are the second-most among rookies in the AHL and his 11 goals are tied for the most among freshmen players.

Among the members of the Canadian team are 17 first-time AHL All-Stars including Manchester's Jonathan Bernier, Hamilton's Cedrick Desjardins and Texas's Brent Krahn, who are the AHL's top three goaltenders in both goals-against average and save percentage. The Canadian squad also features six former NHL first-round draft picks including Ennis and Logan Couture of the Worcester Sharks, the top two rookie scorers in the league. Players on the Canadian roster with previous All-Star experience include Binghamton's Martin St. Pierre and Hartford's Corey Locke, who are tied for the event's all-time scoring lead with eight career points each. The PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team roster will be announced tomorrow (Wednesday).

The Pirates (16-12-4-2) get back at it Thursday night when the Worcester Sharks visit the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Pirates and the CCCC are proud to bring you the annual Kid's New Year's Game featuring New England's largest indoor fireworks display following the 5:30 pm contest. The UNUM Challenge between the Pirates and Sharks continues with Portland leading the eight-game series 2-0-0-1. At each game in each city, one lucky fan is chosen from the submitted entrees as the UNUM Challenge Fan of the Game. Each fan wins a replica jersey and receives five (5) tickets to a future game.
