Bryan Rodney Selected To Canada AHL All-Star Team

December 29, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany River Rats News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The American Hockey League announced today that River Rats defenseman Bryan Rodney has been selected to the Canadian AHL All-Star team for the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic, to be played next month at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine.

Rodney, 25, is in his third season with the River Rats and has nine points (2-7-9) in 21 games. The London, Ontario native has also tallied five assists in ten games with the Carolina Hurricanes this year. The Canadian AHL All-Star team is comprised of 24 players - 13 forwards, eight defensemen and three goaltenders - born in Canada. AHL fans determined the starting lineup via on-line balloting at theahl.com, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the roster, which can be found below.

Among the members of the Canadian team are 17 first-time AHL All-Stars including Manchester's Jonathan Bernier, Hamilton's Cedrick Desjardins and Texas's Brent Krahn, who are the AHL's top three goaltenders in both goals-against average and save percentage. The Canadian squad also features six former NHL first-round draft picks including Logan Couture of the Worcester Sharks and Tyler Ennis of the host Portland Pirates, the top two rookie scorers in the league. Players on the Canadian roster with previous All-Star experience include Binghamton's Martin St. Pierre and Hartford's Corey Locke, who are tied for the event's all-time scoring lead with eight career points each.

Manitoba Moose defenseman Nolan Baumgartner was selected to captain the Canadian team, and was voted to the starting lineup by fan balloting. Because the Hershey Bears won the Calder Cup championship in 2009, their current staff of head coach Mark French and assistant Troy Mann will serve as the coaches for the Canadian team; Bob Woods was promoted to assistant coach of the Washington Capitals after guiding the Bears to the title last spring.

The PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team roster will be announced on Wednesday.

The 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic will feature the top talent in the American Hockey League competing in the 2010 AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Monday, January 18 (8:00 p.m. ET) and the 2010 AHL All-Star Game on Tuesday, January 19 (6:00 p.m. ET), and will be televised live nationally in the United States and Canada. Of the 492 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 94 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including Patrice Bergeron, Brad Boyes, Dan Boyle, Daniel Briere, Brian Campbell, Zdeno Chara, Rick DiPietro, Miikka Kiprusoff, Kari Lehtonen, Ryan Miller, Zach Parise, Bobby Ryan, Martin St. Louis, Jason Spezza, Eric Staal and Tomas Vokoun.

Tickets for the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic - which include admission to both the Skills Competition and the AHL All-Star Game as well as an official commemorative All-Star Classic event program - are $49 (rows 1-12 in all sections) and $42 (rows 13-24 in all sections).
