
Admirals Forward Martins Karsums Named To Olympics

NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk Admirals forward Martins Karsums (KAHR-sihms) has been named to Team Latvia for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Karsums, a 5-foot-9, 200-pound forward from Riga, Latvia, has appeared in 30 games for the Admirals this season and has three goals and 11 points with an even plus/minus rating. Karsums has been heating up of late and shows two goals and six points in his last five games with Norfolk.
Karsums has played in 196 career AHL games with the Admirals and Providence Bruins, amassing 53 goals and 150 points. He has appeared in 22 career Calder Cup Playoff games with Providence, recording 10 goals and 14 points.
Karsums appeared in his first 24 career NHL games last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins, scoring one goal and six points. He played in 18 games with the Lightning after being acquired from Boston in a trade on March 4, 2009. The 23-year-old was drafted by Boston in the second round (64th overall) in 2004.**
Karsums represented his native Latvia during the 2009 World Championships in Switzerland, recording one goal and four points with 27 penalty minutes.
