Hartigan's Strong Play Continues With Columbus

January 12, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release

Center Mark Hartigan carried his hot play from Syracuse to Columbus last week, recording a point in all three of the Blue Jackets games. Four days after being named American Hockey League Player of the Week, Hartigan scored his first goal as a member of the Blue Jackets in Columbus' 3-2 overtime victory at San Jose on Thursday night. He added an assist on Anders Eriksson's goal in the Blue Jackets 2-2 tie at Los Angeles on Saturday night and set up Rick Nash's game-tying goal late in the third period of the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-2 tie with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Hartigan was named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week, for the period ending January 4, after recording seven goals and one assist along with a plus-8 rating, as the Crunch went 3-0-1-0 in four games. In recognition of his achievement, Hartigan will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Fort St. John (B.C.) Minor Hockey Association in Hartigan's name. Hartigan has appeared in 32 games with Syracuse this season, with a team-leading 14 goals. He is third on the team with 26 points. The first player from St. Cloud State University ever named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award (2002), Hartigan split his rookie season between the Chicago Wolves and the Atlanta Thrashers in 2002-03, recording 15 goals and 31 assists in 55 AHL games. The native of Fort St. John, British Columbia, has six goals and four assists in 29 career NHL matches.

LECLAIRE SETS HIGH: Goaltender Pascal Leclaire made a season high 45 saves, leading the Crunch to a 3-2 victory over the Rochester Americans on Saturday night. The 45 saves were two short of his career high of 47 set on November 30, 2002 @ Hershey. With the victory, Leclaire eclipsed his season-high win total of eight, set during his rookie season last year. Leclaire enters this week with a 9-7-1 record, a 2.74 goals against average and a .923 save percentage for the season.

WHAT WAS HIS NAME?: The Crunch have already had 35 different players suit up for them through their first 35 games this season. Last season 46 players appeared in a game for the Crunch.

McDONELL EXTENDS STREAK TO FOUR: Right wing Kent McDonell scored once and added two assists in the Crunch's two-games this past weekend to extend his point scoring streak to four games (January 3 - January 10). McDonell has also appeared in 24 games with the Blue Jackets this season with two points (1g, 1a) and 34 penalty minutes.
