
Wanvig to Wild, Brandner joins Aeros

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. â Minnesota Wild General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled RW Kyle Wanvig from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL), the team's primary development affiliate. In addition, the club announced today that LW Christoph Brandner has been reassigned to Houston. Wanvig, 22 (1/29/81), recorded 23 points (15-8=23) in 38 games with the Aeros this season. He ranked first on the team in goals (15), game-winning goals (6) and power play goals (6). Wanvig also ranked tied for first in scoring and third in penalty minutes (68) and was the lone Houston player selected to participate in the AHL All-Star Game, February 9 in Grand Rapids. This is the second time the 6-foot-2, 219-pound forward has been recalled by the Wild this season. Wanvig was recalled on December 18, 2003 and appeared in two games before being reassigned to Houston on December 21.
He has tallied one goal and 17 penalty minutes in nine career games with Minnesota. Wanvig made his NHL debut on November 25, 2002 against Vancouver and registered his first career NHL goal on December 17, 2002 against Edmonton. The Calgary, Alberta-native was selected by Minnesota in the second round (36th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He will wear jersey number 27.
Brandner, 28 (5/7/75), notched nine points (4-5=9) in 35 games with Minnesota this season. He became the first Austrian skater to log NHL ice time in a regular season game in the Wild season-opener October 8 at Chicago. Brandner scored his first-career NHL goal October 12 against San Jose to become the first Austrian born player to score a point in an NHL game. The Bruck Muir, Austria native was selected by the Wild in the eighth round (237th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
