P-Bruins Set to Begin Busy Slate of Games

January 12, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release

The Providence Bruins begin the week in third place in the Atlantic Division with their 17-12-9-0 record (43 points), two points behind the second place Manchester Monarchs. The Bruins played only one game last week, a 2-2 tie at Springfield on Saturday. They begin a busy stretch on Friday, January 16 at 7:05 p.m., when they host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Friday's game will be the first of seven in 10 days for the Black and Gold.

Friday's game is Providence Bruins Hat Night. The first 4,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Providence Bruins hat, courtesy of the Rhode Island Lottery and WPRI CBS-12/WNAC Fox-64.

Four roster moves have been made since Saturday's game. Left wing Martin Samuelsson, who had been recalled by Boston on Friday, was reassigned to Providence on Sunday. Left wing Doug Doull and defenseman Zdenek Kutlak were both recalled by Boston on Monday. In addition, left wing Mike Gellard was reassigned to the Trenton Titans (ECHL) on Monday. Gellard had 2-1-3 totals in 29 games with the P-Bruins.

Three P-Bruins returned to the lineup in Saturday's game. Center Kris Vernarsky, who suffered a broken foot on December 7, returned to action. All-Star center Matt Herr, who sustained a knee injury on December 14, also returned to the lineup and had an assist. Left wing Andy Hilbert made his season debut at Springfield. The third-year winger out of the University of Michigan did not play in the Bruins' first 37 games of the season, after suffering a groin injury during training camp.

The third edition of "Providence Bruins Weekly Presented by National City Mortgage" will air on Tuesday, January 13 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The show, hosted by Adam Alper, will feature Providence Bruins head coach Scott Gordon and Providence Journal beat writer Joe McDonald, as well as Bruin forwards Carl Corazzini and Andre Savage.
