
Harrisburg posts 9-1 win over Trenton

(Trenton, NJ)- Harrisburg Starting Pitcher Luis Atilano only allowed one unearned run over seven innings to help the Senators to a 9-1 win over Trenton on Monday night from Waterfront Park. Trenton has now dropped four consecutive games against Harrisburg.
Harrisburg (45-55) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Catcher Sean Rooney and Shortstop Freddy Bynum had back-to-back singles off of Thunder Starting Pitcher Ryan Pope (4-8) to start the inning. Right fielder Michael Daniel followed with an RBI single to plate Rooney, and give the Senators a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, Third baseman Matt Whitney connected on an RBI single. First baseman Bill Rhinehart capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly RBI. The Senators added three runs in the fourth inning to increase the lead to 6-0. Bynum had an RBI single with two outs in the frame. Daniel followed with a two-run home run to right field to make it 6-0. In the fifth inning, Third baseman Matt Whitney delivered an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-0. Harrisburg scored their final two runs in the sixth inning. Bynum had a sacrifice fly RBI, and Rooney scored on a passed ball. Daniel went 3 x 4 with a home run and three RBI in the win. Bynum was 2 x 3 with two runs and two RBI.
Trenton (50-51) scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh innning. With two outs, and Right fielder Richie Robnett on third base, Designated Hitter James Cooper connected on an RBI single. The RBI was his 21st of the season. Trenton First baseman Chris Malec had two hits in the loss for the Thunder.
Atilano (5-7) picked up the win by going seven innings. He scattered six hits and one run (unearned). He struck out three and walked two. He is now 1-1 in two starts against the Thunder this season. Pope allowed 12 hits and nine runs (eight earned) in 5 1/3 innings. The 12 hits allowed by Pope tied a season-high for him.
Trenton and Harrisburg will play the second game of a five-game series on Tuesday afternoon. RHP Jason Stephens (1-0, 3.09) will start for Trenton against Harrisburg RHP Adrian Alaniz (1-4, 5.90). Game time is set for 12:05 p.m.
