
Eastern League Pitcher-Player of the Week Awards Week Ending July 26th

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the week ending July 26th:
Erie SeaWolves outfielder Brennan Boesch has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending July 26th. The 24-year old had an outstanding week for the SeaWolves, hitting .407 (11-for-27) with three doubles, one triple, four home runs, 10 RBI, nine runs scored, one walk and a 1.037 slugging percentage in seven games. Boesch, who is a native of Santa Monica, California, currently has a 13-game hitting streak and had three multiple hit games last week, including going 4-for-5 with two doubles, one homer, three RBI and three runs scored in a 16-3 win over Binghamton on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park. The 6'6", 210 lb. slugger also homered in three straight games from July 22nd-24th and has a league-high 21 home runs on the season. He also is ranked among the league leaders in triples (7-1st), total bases (197-1st), runs scored (63-tied 3rd), slugging percentage (.540-4th), RBI (67-4th), OPS (.851-8th) and hits (100-tied 8th). Brennan, who was selected as a member of the Southern Division All-Star Team for the 2009 Eastern League All-Star Game but was unable to play due to injury, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 3rd round of the 2006 draft after hitting .313 with 10 homers and 42 RBI during his junior season at the University of California.
Deolis Guerra, a right-handed starting pitcher for the New Britain Rock Cats, is the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 26th. The 6'5", 200 lb. hurler made one start for the Rock Cats last week and posted a record of 1-0 with 12 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in seven innings pitched. Guerra made his only appearance of the week Thursday night against Portland at New Britain Stadium and pitched a complete game shutout. He struck out a career-high 12 batters and walked only one while giving up just four hits in seven innings during the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The 20-year old made his Double-A debut with the Rock Cats earlier this month on July 8th against the Connecticut Defenders after receiving a promotion from the Ft. Myers Miracle of the Class-A Florida State League. He has appeared in four games with New Britain and has a record of 3-0 with 23 strikeouts and a 3.52 ERA in 23 innings of work. The San Felix, Venezuela native was had a record of 6-8 with 57 strikeouts and a 4.69 ERA in 16 games with Ft. Myers prior to his promotion. Deolis was acquired by the Minnesota Twins as part of the trade with the New York Mets for Johan Santana on January 29, 2008.
