Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, PA - Binghamton RF DJ Wabick belted a grand slam in the top of the tenth to give the Binghamton Mets (AA-New York Mets) a 10-6 win over the Curve in extra innings Monday night in the series opener at Blair County Ballpark.
After trailing 1-0 the Curve scored five unearned runs in the sixth inning, a frame that featured just one hit, four walks and two errors to give the Curve a four run lead. That lead would be short lived as the Mets rallied for four runs in the following inning highlighted by a two run double by Lucas Duda to even the game at five.
The teams exchanged runs in the ninth with Gorkys Hernandez recording a sacrifice fly to tie the game and send it to extras.
Curve starter Mike Crotta left the game in the sixth in a scoreless tie. Crotta would finish the night credited with one earned run in 5.0+ innings pitched with four strikeouts. Jean Machi (2-3) takes the loss for Altoona after having his scoreless innings streak snapped by the Wabick homer at 13.1 innings.
The Curve (40-63) hope to even the series Tuesday night in game two of the four game set against the B-Mets (39-61).
