Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria, Il - The Peoria Rivermen outshot the Hamilton Bulldogs 47-22 on Saturday night but the Bulldogs scored five times in the third period en route to a 7-4 win at Carver Arena. Ivan Vishnevskiy scored his first professional goal and registered the first four-point night (two goals, two assists) for a Rivermen this season.
A 2-2 tie was broken open in the final 20 minutes of the game as the two teams combined for seven goals. It was the first time the Rivermen had allowed more than three goals in a period and the total of seven was the most goals allowed in a game this year.
None of the Bulldogs five goals in the period were scored during five-on-five play. They scored three times during four-on-four and two shorthanded goals. Following a Max Pacioretty major penalty and a Chris Porter minor for roughing that offset the first two minutes of Rivermen power-play time, Matt D'Agostini scored at 4:01 and gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead.
Just 54 seconds later, still during four-on-four play, Brock Trotter backhanded home a rebound, generated by a three-on-one opportunity for his fourth of the season.
Vishnevskiy, who had two assists in the second period, slapped one past Marc Denis at the exact second that the Rivermen's three-minute power play expired to put the Rivermen back within one.
The close game was short-lived as Kyle Chipchura (9:51) and Ryan White (11:29) quickly scored to expand the Bulldogs lead back to 6-4.
Peoria scored a shorthanded goal of their own as Denis came out of his net to play the puck and put it on the stick of Vishnevskiy at 14:42. He beat Denis back into the net with a shot that earned him the four-point night and the No. 1 star of the game.
An empty-net goal, as time expired, proved to the final tally in the 7-4 loss.
Nikolay Lemtyugov and Nicholas Drazenovic combined to score the first two goals of the game for Peoria. After falling behind 1-0 after the first period, Lemtyugov tied the game at 8:34 of the second as his shot ricocheted off a body in front and flipped over Denis.
Drazenovic, who assisted on the first goal, was setup at the side of the net for a tap in by Jim Jackson at 15:24.
Peoria's 47 shots were their most in a game this season but Denis made 43 saves. Ben Bishop stopped 16 of 22 and saw his goals-against average rise to 2.88 in the loss.
The Rivermen return to the ice on Wednesday to take on the Admirals in Milwaukee. Faceoff is set for 7:00 pm from the Bradley Center and the game will be broadcast on Hippie 101.1FM as well as online through www.rivermen.net.
They will be back at Carver Arena on Friday to welcome the Rockford IceHogs to town. Jennette McCurdy of Nickelodeon's "iCarly" will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs, presented by CEFCU. Tickets are available at the Peoria Civic Center box office, by calling (309) 673-3200 or online at www.rivermen.net.
