Falcons Beat Bruins 5-1, Tied For Second Place

The Springfield Falcons won their second straight home game as they beat the Providence Bruins 5-1 on Saturday night in front of 6,347 at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons are now in a second place tie with the Bruins improving their record to 9-4-2-1 on the season. The Falcons will look for three straight wins on Sunday when they head to Lowell.

After an evenly played first 10 minutes of the first period, the Falcons opened the scoring at 18:10 of the first period when Ryan Potulny scored on the power play giving them a one-goal lead after 20 minutes of play.

In the second period, the Falcons built a 2-0 lead when Rob Schremp scored his first marker of the year at 9:34, followed by Gilbert Brule's seventh marker of the year at 12:10 giving Springfield a 3-0 cushion. Providence cut their deficit to 3-1 when Martin St. Pierre scored on the power play, but Bryan Lerg tallied his third goal of the year at 18:10 regaining the Falcons' three-goal advantage at 4-1.

Derek Bekar added an insurance goal in the third period as Springfield is now 6-1-1-1 in their last nine games.
