Canucks re-assign Baumgartner to Moose; recall Schneider

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose announced today they have re-assigned defenceman Nolan Baumgartner to the Moose and have recalled goaltender Cory Schneider.

Baumgartner, 32, did not appear in a game with Vancouver after being recalled on Nov. 20/08. In 12 games so far this season with the Moose, the Calgary, AB nativ scored six points (1-5-6) and 13 penalty minutes. His lone goal this season came Oct. 11 vs. Hamilton. In 210 career games as a Moose, Baumgartner has scored 23 goals and 88 assists for 113 points and 244 penalty minutes. He was named the team's top defenceman in 2003 and 2005. Overall, he has played in 625 career games in the American Hockey League since 1996 where he's collected 63 goals and 225 assists for 288 points and 666 penalty minutes with Iowa, the Philadelphia Phantoms, Manitoba, Norfolk, and Portland. He has appeared in two AHL All-Star Classics in his career - 2005 with Manitoba and as a starter in 2007 while with Philadelphia. Baumgartner has also played in 131 career NHL games with Dallas, the Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Washington. In that time, he's scored six goals and 39 assists for 45 points and 67 penalty minutes. His most productive season was in 2005-06 when he played in 70 games with the Canucks and scored five goals and 29 assists for 34 points and 30 penalty minutes. Baumgartner was originally drafted in the first round, 10th overall, by the Washington Capitals in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.

Schneider, 22, is the AHL's leading goaltender through 11 appearances this season with a goals against average of 1.37. The Marblehead, MA native is second in the league in save percentage at .945 and is first in the league in wins with a 10-1-0 record. He is currently riding a franchise-record 10-game winning streak and has one shutout on Nov. 2/08 at Peoria. He has played in 47 games in his two-year pro career with the Moose. Last season, he compiled a record of 20-12-2 with a goals against average of 2.28 and a save percentage of .913 - both of which ranked second amongst AHL rookie netminders. Schneider was named the Rbk Edge/AHL Rookie of the Month for March and started all six Calder Cup games for Manitoba in the playoffs where he posted a 2-4 record with a 1.92 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.
