Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON, Texas - Riley Armstrong had a pair of goals including the game winner as the Worcester Sharks defeated the Houston Aeros 5-3 Saturday night in front of 8,168 fans at Toyota Center. The win marked the Sharks' third in a row and improved their record to 8-8-0-0. John Scott scored the go-ahead goal for the Aeros just 1:30 into the final period, but the Aeros (8-8-0-1) couldn't hold on for the victory. Houston has lost their last two games after having leads in the third period. The Aeros return Sunday for a 5:05 p.m. game against the Hamilton Bulldogs at Toyota Center. Worcester got on the board first with Riley Armstrong's first goal of the game at the 7:11 mark when he wristed a shot off the blocker of goaltender Barry Brust that bounced over the goaltender's head and into the back of the net. Houston tied the game just over a minute later on a five-on-three power play goal for Maxim Noreau, his fifth goal of the season and fourth on the power play. Noreau skated into the slot and wristed a shot past Taylor Dakers as Aeros' forward Ryan Hamilton screened the shot. The teams remained tied at one for the remainder of the first period.
Bryan Lundbohm gave Houston a 2-1 lead at the 5:09 mark of the second period when he tipped a Jon Insana shot over the blocker of Dakers for Lundbohm's third goal of the season. Worcester answered at the 14:12 mark on a power play goal for Jamie McGinn. The Sharks outshot the Aeros 13-9 in the period, but the game stayed tied at two.
Houston nabbed the lead just 1:30 into the final frame when defenseman John Scott clapped a loose puck over the blocker of Dakers. Scott was assisted by Peter Olvecky and John Lammers, but the Aeros couldn't hold on to the lead. Less than four minutes later, Steven Zalewski tied the game on a shorthanded breakaway goal at the 5:11 mark of the period. Houston was on a five-on-three power play, but two Aeros lost their edges and went to the ice giving Zalewski an unassisted breakaway. Armstrong notched the game winner on the Sharks second power play goal of the game with 9:28 remaining. Houston's comeback attempt failed and Mike Morris finished the game with an empty net goal with 18 seconds remaining.
Houston is winless in their last three games going 0-2-0-1 and they have given up third period leads in each of their last two games. The Aeros turn around to face the Hamilton Bulldogs Sunday evening for a 5:05 p.m. tilt. Tickets are available for the Amerigroup Family Day game by calling (866) GO-AEROS or visiting AEROS.com.
