Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The The Binghamton Senators picked up a point and ended their three-game scoreless drought in a 4-3 overtime loss to East Division rivals Philadelphia Phantoms Saturday night at the Broome County Veteran Memorial Arena.
The Phantoms opened the night's contest controlling the first period, scoring three goals on 13 shots.
Left wing Patrick Maroon notched the Phantoms' first goal of the evening at 7:06 on a rebound shot off Binghamton Senator goalie Jeff Glass' left pad. Eight minutes later on a Phantoms' power play, defenseman Danny Syrvet found the back of the net with a point-blank marker from the top post to make it a 2-0 game.
At 18:53 with traffic around the crease, defenseman Michael Ratchuk took a feed from right wing David Laliberte and tapped the puck behind Glass's right foot to give the Phantoms a 3-0 lead.
The B-Sens, though, battled back in the second period, scoring three goals of their own a 25-shots-on-goal effort-their most in a period this season. Center Josh Hennessy netted the first marker at 7:56, following his own rebound shot off Phantoms goalie Jean-Sebastien Aubin. The goal was Hennessy's second of the season and ended Binghamton's scoreless streak at just over 218 minutes. Defenseman Brian Lee assisted on the play.
Nearly four-and-a-half minutes later, newly signed right wing Rob Sirianni was awarded a penalty shot and capitalized on the opportunity, beating Aubin with low right-hand wrister. The goal marked Sirianni's first goal and point in the American Hockey League.
Right wing Danny Bois tied the game 3-3 at 12:40 with his first power-play goal of the season, with assists from Mattias Karlsson and Hennessy. The right winger's shot was initially blocked by Aubin, but the puck hit the crossbar and bounced behind the goaltender and trickled over the line, giving Bois his second goal of the season and Karlsson his ninth assist.
After a scoreless third period, Phantoms right wing Claude Giroux scored the game-winning goal with 54 seconds left in overtime, to give Philadelphia the 4-3 victory.
Netminder Jeff Glass turned away 36 shots to help secure one point for Binghamton.
