Lansing, MI - RHP Taylor Guerrieri pitched his second straight shutout appearance to lead the Bowling Green Hot Rods (38-30) to an 8-0 victory against the Lansing Lugnuts (32-37) on Sunday afternoon. Guerrieri's five shutout innings were followed by scoreless work from RHP Nick Sawyer, LHP Jose Molina, and RHP Marcus Jensen to win the rubber match of a three-game series. Tyler Goeddel, Joey Rickard, and Brandon Martin each had three-hit games for the Hot Rods offense.

Bowling Green got on the scoreboard in the second inning. Rickard hit a one-out double to the right field wall and made it to third base after Patrick Leonard grounded out to second. Martin followed with a double of his own that plated Rickard for an early 1-0 lead.

The Hot Rods added a pair of runs in the fifth. Martin and Andrew Toles opened the frame with back-to-back singles that put runners on the corners. Leonardo Reginatto brought in Martin on a sacrifice fly to right field that also moved Toles to second base. Toles stole third base and scored with a ground ball from Luke Maile that led to an error by Lugnuts LHP Alonzo Gonzalez.

Guerrieri cruised on the mound as the Hot Rods built their 3-0 advantage. Seven Lugnuts struck out against Guerrieri, including three in a row during the second inning. Guerrieri got through his lone jam in the fourth inning with strikes as he struck out a pair of Lugnuts to strand a pair of runners in scoring position.

Bowling Green hit three home runs through the rest of the game to pad the lead. Rickard lifted a solo shot in the sixth inning while Leonard and Goeddel had two-run blasts in eighth and ninth innings, respectively. Rickard ended the game with a single, double, and a homer, falling just shy of hitting for the cycle.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods finished the first half of the season in third place in the Midwest League's Eastern Division. Nine Hot Rods were selected to represent the East for the upcoming 2013 MWL Summer All-Star Classic on Tuesday in Dayton, OH.
