
Loons Win Half Finale 6-2

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - The Great Lakes Loons scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning and took command of the game by a score of 6-2. That turned out to be the final. The Loons hit for the cycle in the seventh. Joe Winker hit the homerun, Kevin Taylor hit a single, Jose Cappellan doubled and James Baldwin hit the triple. When it was all said and done, four runs scored and the Loons split the series and won the last game of the half.
Lake County took the early lead. Eric Haase smacked his seventh homerun of the season and the two run shot put Lake County up after one inning 2-0. Great Lakes responded with a run in the top of the second. Aaron Miller doubled and later scored on a ground out by Kevin Taylor. In the fourth, Tyler Ogle hit a solo homerun and the score was even at 2-2. That was all the scoring, until the seventh.
RHP Chris Perez started the game for the Captains. The rehab outing lasted one inning. Perez allowed two hits and had one strikeout. LHP Ryan Merritt (3-7) took the loss. Merritt pitched six innings, with nine hits, six earned runs, no walks and four strikeouts. Merritt allowed two homeruns. Jack Wagoner pitched two innings and allowed just two hits.
The Loons sent 16 year old Julio Urias (1-0) to the mound to start. Urias, pitched three innings, and allowed two runs on the Eric Haase homer. The youngster allowed four hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Urias did not get a decision. The Loons used three relief pitchers and kept the Captains scoreless. The win went to Scott Griggs (1-4) for the Loons.
The Lake County Captains will not be in action again until they open up a six game road trip starting June 20th in Dayton, OH. First pitch on the 20th will be at 7:00 PM.
The Captains will return home on Wednesday night June 26th. The Great Lakes Loons will head back to Classic Park to open the 8 game home stand will kick off with at 7:00 PM.
