Dragons Earn Shutout Win in First Half Finale

South Bend, Ind.-Dayton starting pitcher Ismael Guillon and three relievers combined on a five-hit shutout as the Dragons defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons won two-out-of-three in the series against the first half East Division champion Silver Hawks. The series concluded the first half of the Midwest League's split-season.

Guillon worked the first six innings and was outstanding. He allowed no runs on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Tony Amezcua worked a scoreless seventh and Ben Klimesh pitched the eighth. Sean Lucas pitched the ninth for his 10th save. Lucas retired the first two batters of the inning before allowing a base hit and a walk, but he got Mike Lang to ground out to shortstop to end the game.

The Dragons scored the game's first run in the third inning when Daniel Pigott singled to center field, went to second on Sammy Diaz's bunt hit, stole third, and scored on a two-out error to make it 1-0. Dayton added another run in the eighth when Joe Terry walked, went to second on Junior Arias' single to center, to third on Tanner Rahier's ground out, and scored on Zach Vincej's single to right to give the Dragons a 2-0 lead.

The Dragons finished with nine hits. Pigott, Diaz, Arias, and Vincej all had two. Arias had a triple for the Dragons' only extra base hit.

The Dragons will host the Midwest League All-Star Game on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. They will open the second half on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at home against the Lake County Captains. Notes: Diaz is 6 for 12 in his first three games with the Dragons...Pigott's two hits raised his average to .310...Dayton's Seth Mejias-Brean went 0 for 5 to snap his 10-game hitting streak...The Dragons finished the first half with a 28-41 record. They went 15-15 over their final 30 games.
