Burlington Falls 5-4 in First Half Finale

Quad Cities took advantage of five errors by the Burlington Bees and earned a series split with a 5-4 win on Sunday night at Modern Woodmen Park.

Ryan Crowley (6-2) took the mound for his final start before heading over to Dayton for the All-Star Game, but he struggled on Sunday, allowing four runs, three earned in three innings.

The Bees (26-39) got on the board in the third when Wade Hinkle grounded into a double play with the bases loaded. Wendell Soto scored from third, but he was the only run that came across after Burlington loaded the bases with nobody out.

Quad Cities (38-31) wasted no time taking the lead, scoring four runs in bottom of the inning against Crowley. Jordan Scott doubled to lead off the frame and scored on a single by Ruben Sosa. Sosa stole second and came across on a single by Teoscar Hernandez. Crowley tried to pick off Hernandez and threw it to the Bees bullpen, allowing Hernandez to get to third base. He scored on a single by Carlos Correa. Correa then stole second and scored on a Roberto Pena single.

Andrew Ray kept the Bees within striking distance, bringing home two runs on a single in the fifth. Chevy Clarke and Wendell Soto each scored to pull Burlington within one run.

The Bandits got a run back against Aaron Newcomb, scoring an unearned run in the fifth. Carlos Correa hit a sacrifice fly to score Teoscar Hernandez, who had reached on an error by Sherman Johnson and advanced to third after a stolen base and an error by Anthony Bemboom. The Bees committed two errors in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Colton Cain (3-5) delivered three scoreless innings, allowing one hit to pick up the win. Chevy Clarke hit a solo home run with one out in the ninth off of Juan Minaya, but Minaya worked around a two-out single by Sherman Johnson to pick up the save.

Burlington ends the half with a 26-39 record and will begin the second half on Thursday at Community Field with a four-game series against the Clinton Lumberkings.
