Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (22-12) used a career-high ten strikeouts from Taylor Guerrieri to beat the Lake County Captains (12-21) 8-0 on Sunday afternoon at Bowling Green Ballpark. Tyler Goeddel hit his first home run of the season as the Hot Rods offense scored their most runs in the month of May to even the three-game series at one game apiece.
Andrew Toles was responsible for initiating the first two Hot Rods rallies, both of which occurred with two outs. In the bottom of third, Toles singled to left field and Rickard walked. Goeddel then came up and doubled home Toles to centerfield to score the game's first run. Toles then reached on an error in the fifth, which was followed by a Joey Rickard ground rule double to right field to give the Hot Rods a 2-0 lead. Goeddel followed by connecting on a two-run home run to right-center.
Taylor Guerrieri had no problem pitching with the lead on Sunday afternoon, striking out ten Captains. The righty settled down after throwing 43 pitches in the first two innings to work more efficiently over his final three frames. Guerrieri allowed just one single and struck out two men in each inning to earn his second win in a Hot Rods uniform.
Bowling Green added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, bringing nine men to the plate. Leonardo Reginatto had an RBI double, and Toles added a two-RBI single to extend his team lead in the category to 27. Hot Rods relievers Jordan Harrison, Marcus Jensen, and Matt Ramsey had no problems in the final four innings, combining to allow no runs and just one hit.
The win is the Hot Rods fourteenth in 19 home games in 2013 and snaps a seven-game losing streak to Lake County that dates back to July of 2012. The Hot Rods will attempt to win back-to-back games for the first time in the month of May on Monday.
The homestand wraps on Monday at 10:35 AM CDT with the rubber match of the three-game set with the Lake County Captains. The Hot Rods will send RHP Jeff Ames (4-0, 1.45) to the mound, while the Captains will look to LHP Ryan Merritt (1-2, 3.19) to pitch his team to a series win. The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 10:05 AM CDT. Tune in to the game on 1340 WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com.
Monday is the fourth Education Day game of the season at Bowling Green Ballpark. Schools interested in attending Monday's or future Education Days can contact the Hot Rods at (270) 901-2121 or visit BGHotRods.com.
