Bees Crank out Season-High 15 Hits in 8-3 Win

Michael Bolaski and Pedro Toribio had four hits apiece as the Burlington Bees offense hit its way to an 8-3 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field.

The Bees have been carried by their pitching in the majority of their first 11 wins, but it was the offense that took over on Sunday afternoon, scoring three runs or more in two separate innings.

Burlington trailed 2-1 entering the fourth, but scored four runs on four hits and two errors to take a 5-2 lead that they would not relinquish. In the inning, Sandy Martinez and Pedro Toribio each reached on singles, while Wendell Soto tripled home Toribio and Wade Hinkle brought home Kyle Johnson on a double. Martinez scored on an error, while Soto scored on an wild pitch. In the inning, Johnson stole his 22nd base of the year in 22 chances. Jorge Lopez surrendered five earned runs in three-plus innings in his third loss of the season.

Jake Boyd (2-3) made his second professional start, delivering five innings of two-run ball to move his record to 2-0 as a starter. Reid Scoggins picked up for Boyd and threw three innings, allowing one run, while walking a season-high six batters. Scoggins has only allowed three earned runs in 21 innings.

In the sixth, the Bees added three more runs off of Ryan Gibbard, with two coming home on a two-run triple by Michael Bolaski. Bolaski had his best day in a Bees uniform, going 4-for-5 with one run and two RBIs. Pedro Toribio also finished 4-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

Burlington will try and pick up their second series victory of the season when Aaron Newcomb opposes Preston Gainey at 6:35 p.m. on Monday night.
