Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (3-3, 41-33) were swept by the Lake County Captains (5-1, 28-45) after a 6-3 loss at Bowling Green Ballpark on Tuesday afternoon. RHP Taylor Guerrieri pitched five shutout innings in a no-decision. Guerrieri has now hurled 16.2 IP without allowing a run dating back to his appearance against the South Bend Silver Hawks on June 2.
Guerrieri and RHP Dylan Baker matched up for five scoreless innings to open the contest. Guerrieri responded with quick work in his final two innings, including a 1-2-3 effort in the fifth. Baker did not yield a hit to the Hot Rods and left a runner at third base in the third.
Lake County got on the board in the sixth inning. RHP Eduar Quinonez walked three straight batters with two outs in the frame that put the Captains ahead 1-0. Jorge Martinez followed with a ground-rule double that lodged into the right field fence, extending the lead to 3-0. Bowlling Green broke up the no-hitter and shutout with two-out RBI singles by Leonardo Reginatto and Luke Maile to get within a run before the inning closed.
After the Hot Rods left the tying run at third base in the eighth, the Captains answered with a big rally in the final inning. Logan Vick scored Yhoxian Medina with a double, and Jeremy Lucas had a two-run single that increased the advantage to 6-2. Two-out hits in the bottom of the ninth produced a Hot Rods run as Marty Gantt doubled and came in on a single from Joey Rickard. That play capped the scoring in the Hot Rods loss.
